About
Haiku is an open source operating system currently in development designed from the ground
up for desktop computing. Inspired by the Be Operating System, Haiku aims to provide users of
all levels with a personal computing experience that is simple yet powerful,
and void of any unnecessary complexities.
Why Haiku?
As a tool, software is a means to an end, and not an end in itself. The Be Operating System
introduced progressive concepts and technologies that we believe represent the ideal means
to the end of desktop computing. Haiku will be the realization of those concepts and technologies
in the form of an operating system that is open source and free.
Who We Are
Haiku is developed mostly by volunteers around the world in their spare time.
Besides the core members, Haiku also exists thanks to the dedicated support of a fervent
and friendly community, and that of Haiku Inc., a non-profit founded by Project Leader Michael Phipps
with the purpose of supporting the development of the Haiku Operating System.

Schon längerer Zeit segelte das auf BeOS basierende Betriebssystem Zeta in unruhigen Gewässern.
Doch nun ist Zeta endgültig auf Grund gelaufen. Der Distributor Magnussoft hat die
Finanzierung der weiteren Entwicklung von Zeta eingestellt.
Magnussoft hat den Vertrieb von Zeta nach dem Konkurs des ursprünglichen Herstellers
yellowTAB im letzten Jahr übernommen. Bernd Korz, der Vater von Zeta, hat in seinem Blog betätigt,
dass Zeta nicht weiter entwickelt wird. Er will aber prüfen, ob Teile des Quellcodes als Open-Source
veröffentlich werden oder in Haiku einfließen können. Haiku ist ein von Grund auf neu programmierter
BeOS-Klon, der auch quelloffen entwickelt wird.
