Etwas in die Jahre gekommen ist dieses sprechende (oder stumme) Windows- Zubehör, die sogenannten
MsAgents (z.B. in MS Office -> Karl Klammer). Agents und Bots gibt es von einigen Herstellern.
Solche Agenten sind z.B. animierte Avatare  8) oder Sprachprogramme die Texte vorlesen,
auf Spracheingabe per Mikrofon reagieren, Aktionen ausführen, und noch einge andere Dinge können.

FreeVoice is a Freeware application that uses Microsoft Agent characters to provide Text-to-Speech and Voice Control
capabilities.
Features
- Multiple Characters - FreeVoice can display up to 15 characters (called agents) simultaneously.
You can select which agents are to be loaded automatically on startup
- Read from Clipboard - Double-Clicking an agent will make the agent read the text that is currently on the clipboard.
- Read from Files - FreeVoice can read text from plain-text files and play wave sound files.
- Voice Control - You can use voice commands to control FreeVoice and launch programs.
- FreeVoice automatically adds voice commands for all programs on the currently-logged on user's Start Menu.
- TODO List - FreeVoice includes a TODO list that will be read out after the specified duration.
- Reminders - You can set reminders for a specific date and time. FreeVoice will read out the reminder
and display a message at the specified data and time.
Requirements
Pentium 100 MHz with 16 MB RAM
Windows 98/NT/2000. FreeVoice will run on Windows 95, however, Reminders will not work.

Voice Recognition For EVERYONE
Mit dem Freeware-Programm "Nitrous Voice Flux" kann der Anwender mit Hilfe von Sprachbefehlen sein
Betriebssystem steuern. So kann beispielsweise mit dem Sprachbefehl "Close Windows" das gerade aktive Fenster
geschlossen werden und mit dem Befehl "What Time is it" sagt eine Stimme die aktuelle Uhrzeit an.
Besonders interessant ist an Voice Flux, dass neue Befehle nicht dem Programm extra beigebracht werden.
Das Programm erkennt anhand des geschriebenen Wortes, wie es angeprochen wird und reagiert in Zukunft mit dem
entsprechenden Befehl. Das Programm wird mit rund 15 vorgefertigten Befehlen ausgeliefert. Eigene Befehle können
einfach programmiert werden. Leider beschränkt sich die Funktion der neuen Befehle dann aber nur auf den Aufruf von
Programmen. So kann der Anwender den Befehl "Word" eingeben und dem Programm Word zuweisen. Wird in Zukunft
der Befehl "Word" gegeben, startet die Software.
Im Praxis-Test erwies sich die Handhabung des Programmes doch eher gewöhnungsbedürftig und sorgte für so manchen
Lacher. Oft erkennt das Programm nicht den Sprach-Befehl richtig und versucht Programme zu starten, ob wohl man nur
gerade eben ein Selbstgespräch geführt hat oder telefoniert, während das Mikrofon noch angeschaltet ist.

It's an electronic secretary (MSAgent) that'll manage your appointments, address book, provide you with an
graphiclly-editable calendar. It even allows you to connect to other secretaries and see (when allowed) other people's
address books, appointments, etc. The secretaries will talk to you and you can talk to them (microphone necessary).
Useful and easy to use but the description suggest an MsAgent character and it only has its technology in the built-in
'invisible' speech engine.

AIML: Artificial Intelligence Markup Language
AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language) is an XML-compliant language that's easy to learn, and makes it possible

The most important units of AIML are:
<aiml>: the tag that begins and ends an AIML document
<category>: the tag that marks a "unit of knowledge" in an Alicebot's knowledge base
<pattern>: used to contain a simple pattern that matches what a user may say or type to an Alicebot
<template>: contains the response to a user input
There are also 20 or so additional more tags often found in AIML files, and it's possible to create your own so-called

The free A.L.I.C.E. AIML includes a knowledge base of approximately 41,000 categories.

No, Microsoft Agent was written to support SAPI 4 and the Speech development team at Microsoft did not provide
for any backward compatibility in SAPI 5 for any prior versions.

recognition results and what has already been entered. The interface also seamlessly integrates a default language model,
allowing the user to efficiently enter words missed completely by the recognizer.
These probability estimates are then used in the continuous gestured-based interface Dasher to
allow the user to confirm and correct their dictated sentence.
The current research prototype is available for download below. So try it out and send me your feedback.

You must have PowerPoint 2000 or later installed. Unfortunately the
PowerPoint viewers are not useable as they do not provide the basic

The Microsoft Speech API 5.1 (MS SAPI 5.1) must be installed and if you
have Windows XP you will already have it. For other versions of Windows
you can download and install the SAPI Text To Speech (TTS) components
[12MB]. This download can also be used with Windows XP and will then
add 2 voices (Mike and Mary) to the single voice that is supplied with XP (Sam).
To check if you have SAPI installed, look for a voice called 'Microsoft Sam'
in Control Panel's Speech Settings (Start -> Control Panel -> Speech ->
Text To Speech). Please note that the PowerTalk cannot use the earlier SAPI 4,
although it is apparently possible to have both SAPI 4 & 5 installed on the same machine.

Where find the Voices
SAPI5 voices are the best, but unfortunately often they are not distributed for free.
The most famous are Cepstral, Acapela, Loquendo, RealSpeak and Voiceware.
RealSpeak: They are good voices and it seems that Microsoft will integrate them by default on Windows Vista.
Italian, Spanish, French, German
eSpeak: It's a new open source engine in english (good) and in other languages (average).
Multilanguage
SAPI4 voices, instead, have worse quality but are easier to find, and downloadable for free; the best are:
L&H TrueVoice: They have a good voice sampling, but wav and MP3 conversions are very slow.
American English, British English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish
